The 2nd Scariest Day

Would have to be when Mason had his seizure.

I never would have thought I would have one child have a seizure much less both of my children.

Mason was 10 months old when he had his seizure, I believe?

I remember that I knew he was sick that day, and he had been running a fever all morning that I was controlling with medicine.

I put him down for a nap in his room in his crib.

After a few hours I was making Timothy's lunch, and he said "Mason is awake, he is crying", I told him that no Mason is sleeping. I never heard him make any noises.

I went down the hall and opened his door slowly so as to not wake him if he was still asleep. And then I seen him in the bed shaking and I knew he was having a seizure because unfortunately I had seen it before.

I ran to his bed and his eyes were rolled back, he was shaking and crying, and then he began to spit up. I ran to get the phone and called 911. They stayed on the phone with me until the paramedics arrived, all the while I just kept talking to him like I did with Timothy. I told him I was there and that he was going to be OK.

I was afraid to take him out of the crib so I just kept rubbing his back. When the paramedics arrived I took them into the room, he was not having a seizure anymore, but his body was doing the same rhythmic shake that Timothy's did and he was still not responsive. He fought the paramedics, but finally they got his temperature and he was still running a fever.

So they went ahead and gave him some medicine, and I was then able to pick him up. Once again I was told that they are common, harmless, nothing I can do to prevent it or stop it from happening.

I spent the day giving medicine and keeping an eye on him. watching every breath, every twitch.

With Mason having his first seizure before the age of 1 he has an even greater risk of another one occurring. Thus why I am a nervous wreck right now.

I cannot explain how scary it is to watch your child going through this. Even though they are harmless there is just something about watching this happen to your child, unable to help them in anyway, unable to stop it from happening. It's scary.
Mason the day he had his seizure.

Anyone else have a child that has been through this?

oh my that would be scary. I haven't had a child that has had seizures but we did have a dog that did and that was pretty scary. I will definitely be praying for your beautiful little one.

Thank you for linking up to Thirsty Thursday.

Kanin had his first one when he was 8 months old. He was at my mom and dad's house and I was here in St. Louis. Mom was at work so my dad had him by himself. My dad called 911 and an ambulance came. The parademics figured out it was febrile and weren't too worried BUT then they had to work on my dad because they thought he was having a heart attack from the whole scenario.

His las one was when he was around 2 1/2 (I think). We were in Vegas and Kanin was with us. I stayed back in the room while Scott went out. He started to have one and I TRIED to call 911 but forgot that I was in a hotel so I didn't have the forethought to hit 9+911. I ran out in the hall screaming and a guest actually came into my room, called the front desk and paramedics were there within a couple of minutes. That one was the worst. Rolled back eyes, foaming at the mouth, etc.
