Finding My Niche

As much as I try not to fret over "followers", "comments", "voting", "top blogs". It's hard not to. It's hard not to see the blogs you follow have hundreds or thousands of followers and 50-100 comments on any given post, and wonder how. I do it all the time, I wonder how did they get that many readers, I wish I had half that many people interested in my blog, and just a quarter of that who would comment.
Mason getting his haircut, which he hates by the way. Can you tell?!

Then I have to remind myself the reason I started this blog. It wasn't to become the top blog, or even one of the top blogs. Because let's face it, I don't lead that exciting of a life! It wasn't to have the thousands of followers, or hundreds of comments.

I started this blog for myself, to be able to get out feelings, to express myself. I started this blog for my children, to be able to remember special moments of their life, along with the everyday. I started this blog for Tim's parents, who live in Texas, and were having to miss out on so much of their grand children's lives. Although now they are moving back and won't be missing out anymore!

And while all the followers and comments would be FANTASTIC, it's not my goal. I can't lie though I do smile when I see a new follower, and I do read every single comment I get, and I appreciate those who read our story. Honestly, I have no idea how I got to where I am, I never expected anyone to read my blog, much less almost 50 people+, so thank you!

I also try to be a follower that comments on other's posts, because I know how much they appreciate comments. I don't follow people to just "follow" them. I follow blogs because I enjoy reading them, and I keep up with them on a daily or every other day basis. And I comment as much as I can with three little ones! I don't think this blogging thing should be a popularity contest, but rather you following blogs you actually are interested it, will take the time to comment once in a while.

Did you ever struggle with gathering more followers, and staying true to the reason why you started blogging in the first place? Why did you start blogging?

Have you hear of For The Love Of Blogs? Well if not it's an awesome blogging community with activities going on all the time. It's a great way to make blogging friends, and get noticed. Even though that's not what my goal is, right?! Ahem. Come on over and join us for Fab Friends Friday, and link up, or just find some new reading material!!

Have a great weekend friends!

Timothy wore his coat around the house most of the day yesterday, couldn't get him to take it off. I guess the boys are getting cabin fever!

I think everyone goes through this phase. I just keep reminding myself that I am doing this for ME and the rest will come, if it is meant to be.

Love the pics!

Hey Mama,

It's all about the content! I am relatively new to this and while I ahve been gaining followers - I know I can't compete with the blogs that ahve eben out there for years! I don't even try! I just do the best I can do in my lil slice of the bloggy world. For me, it's personal - I share my life, my thoughts, my adventures!

Personally, I don't want to lose sight of that!

Good luck - keep doing what you're doing! I think your blog is great - and others will see that too with time!

Hello, I am visiting via Boost Your Blog - your sons are adorable. The haircut picture reminded me of my son's first haircut - he's 24 now!
Finding new blog friends is fun - there's quite a number of wonderful people!
I am your newest follower!

Visiting via FTLOB...I am glad you posted this because I feel that way sometimes too and it's nice to know I'm not alone!

I started blogging to keep in touch with family and friends who lived far away when we moved to St. Louis.

I've kept blogging because I love meeting new people, finding inspiration from others' posts and the journal aspect of it: I like to look back and see what we were doing on any given day (I was never good at keeping a personal journal but am doing better with keeping a blog!)

Happy Friday :)

I think you're doing a great job. I started just to having something that was mine alone. Something outside of being a wife and mother. I think that once you become a stay at home mom it can be so hard to keep your own sense of idenity. At least it was for me and blogging help me remember who I am.

I started blogging for the same reason myself, and my son! Im not a scrap booker and I tried journaling but, I wasn't very good at keeping up, But Ive done a decent job at blogging! Its so hard not to get caught up in the # of followers, (im guilty of it right now) Who knows if even 1/4 of my followers even read my blog right?? I appreciate your comments, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your family!! Happy weekend Friend!

Hey girl, hang in there, your blog will grow! It takes time and lots of networking. You are doing a great job of getting involved over at FTLOB. Keep jumping on hops. And you are doing the right thing by following blogs you like and commenting. That's the best way to get true followers who actually care about you and your blog. It becomes a ton of work to keep up with all your bloggy friends so be careful what you wish for. haha. But seriously, you are on the right path. It's very easy to lose track of your purpose. I feel like sometimes I get caught up in linkys and blog hops and forget to work on good content on my blog! It's all very confusing. Let me know if I can ever help in any way. XO
